Empty state copy for Notifications section on Milanote
If you share a board, we’ll notify you when someone makes a change.
You see this message when you open Milanote’s mobile app and start right away. On desktop, the copy might be different.
While this copy communicates the ‘purpose’ of the section and when to expect something there, it does leave the user at that. I, personally, am not a fan of such empty states. I prefer to give use something to do and leverage the empty state for user retention or app exploration. That’s because users run into empty states when they’re new and trying to figure out what the app can do or what they can do with the app. So, it’s good redirect that energy to something more worthwhile than expect the user to stay on the app and keep swiping down for updates (which they won’t get) or let them drop off.
Empty states are a missed opportunity, in my opinion. What do you think?
P.S. Every day, I dedicate 30 minutes to reviewing UX copy for free. Email me yours if you’re seeking a second set of eyes.
